"My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to
listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring
about the righteous life that God desires."
- James 1:19,20
A few days ago, I was watching the local news and a man had been killed over a fight about a scratch on a car. In my head I was thinking, "Really, a scratch? Com'on, that's the silliest thing I've every heard!". The car was a porsche (expensive!) and the owner confronted the guy who scratched his car. The guy wouldn't pay and hit the porsche owner, which started a fight. I don't want to get into to much detail, so all in all the one who ended up dead was the guy who scratched the porsche. All this over a SCRATCH! Talk about how far anger can take you!
Now as believers, in the midst of a trial we need to be swift to listen, slow to speak, and even slower to become angry. A man killed over a car scratch; it wasn't WORTH IT! If we get angry under a difficult circumstance, the righteousness of God won't be evident in our lives. When someone wrongs us, the natural reaction is to retaliate. But this response does not glorify God. Holding one's tongue, trying to understand the other person's position, and leaving vindication to God demonstrates goldly love in tense situations. Wow. Now I understand what James was talking about when he said we need to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry! Everything we do needs to glorify God. If we are seen angry, then it's not going to seem obvious that we are Christian. Like Jesus said, we need to be Christ-like. I seek you Lord, I trust you!

A guy named Wes George owns a blog called Wes' Retrospections and he once posted an article about the different types of Christians. He reworded the descriptions to describe a persons' faith for the MPAA movie rating system. Rated G, Rated PG, and Rated R. Here's what he came up with:
G = General Audience. Contains nothing in theme, language or lifestyle that would offend the status quo. There may be some snippets of talk about God, but they are common everyday expressions. Depictions of self-sacrifice are minimal.
PG = Partial Guidance. Some talk about Jesus as Savior and some depictions of self-sacrifice, but these are not deemed so intense as to require following the Biblical standard of living out your faith other than when at church or with the "Church Crowd."
R = Resticted. Depictions of activities related to a more mature nature. It is both realistic and extreme realizing there is a war going on in the spiritual realm for the souls of man. Their relationship with Jesus is taken very seriously. There are not the same, but have been transformed. "There's more to them than meets the eye." According to sceptics, this type of faith does not exist, "but when all else fails, they don't." This type of faith accelerates the possessor beyond normal human parameters by the power of the Holy Spirit. Parents and peers are strongly urged to find out more about how this "Restricted" faith can change everything!
Pretty cool, huh? Thanks Wes for sharing this with us!

A recent article from Latina magazine did a story on Justice Sotomayor. I thought maybe I could read a interview but apparently the Justice hasn't done any interviews right now. I can understand why, everyone wants one and doesn't wanna show favorites. So here's the scoop:
Sonia Maria Sotomayor was born in the South Bronx on June 25, 1954 whose parents immigrated from Puerto Rico in search for the American Dream. After going to Cardinal Spellman Highschool, she graduated with highest honors from Princeton University. She went on to Yale Law School and became an editor for the Yale Law Journal. After that, for firve years shw worked as a prosecuter for Manhatten district attorney Robert Morgenthar. Then, for another eight years, she practiced international business law. And for the past 17 years, she served on the federal bench. Most recently as a judge in the U.S Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Most would describe Sonia Sotomayor's life story as a fariy tale and they'ed be wrong. But if you'd ask her, she'd probably tell you life was good. She had a freat relationship with her mom, her brother and had a tight group of friends who cared. Her father died when she was nine of heart complications. A year before her father died, she was diagnosed with diabetes. From then on she'd have to take on insuline shot right before every mean. She loved taking time to teache people about diabetes.
Her mother says, "Sonia was born knowing", and I'd agree with her; the Justice is wise beyond her years. It is obvious that her family and friends love her very much.
"She has always had a capacity to walk in the other person's shoes."
-Sonia's mom,
Celina Sotomayor
So there you have it, Justice Sonia Sotomayor. This is what the editor of Latina magazine, Mimi Valdes Ryan, had to say about Justice Sotomayor:
"The story will make you even prouder that somone like her-who truly is one
of us [a latina]-sits on the highest court in the land."
-Mimi Valdes Ryan,
Editor-in-Chief of Latina Magazine
She has been hailed as "one of the ablest federal judges currently sitting" for her thoughtful opinions, and as "a role model of aspiration, discipline, commitment, intellectual prowess and integrity".
